Crye Precision JPC 1.0

The Crye Precision Jumpable Plate Carrier 1.0 is a solid choice for those seeking a low-profile, lightweight, and rugged solution for carrying plates and equipment at a relatively affordable price. This carrier excels in situations requiring modularity, mobility, packability, and minimal bulk. The JPC is a great option for anyone not expecting to carry heavy loads and is one of the few plate carriers approved for use by the 75th Ranger Regiment.

The JPC 1.0 offers an excellent combination of tactical flexibility, reliability, and slim design. Its low-profile construction and elastic cummerbund attachments allow for a snug, sleek fit that ensures ease of movement without sacrificing practicality. The JPC 1.0's small version weights 1.2 pounds and the XL version weights 1.5 pounds, making it incredibly lightweight. Both the skeletal cummerbund and shoulder straps are highly adjustable, making it easy to achieve a comfortable and customized fit. The stretch nylon material around the plate bags allows comparability with plates of different thicknesses and achieves a lightweight, slick, and quick drying design. These low-profile Hypalon shoulder straps are lightweight and low- profile, allowing for a weapon’s stock to be placed securely into one’s shoulder, which is difficult to achieve with bulkier plate carriers. The three integral mag pouches on the placard eliminate the need for bulky pouches, keeping the carriers’ front side slim. These mag pouches each fit a full single full-size magazine of an intermediate caliber, or a single larger magazine in the outer two pouches. The unique elastic attachment system for the cummerbund keeps the carrier flexible and secure, reducing excess movement during use while allowing for dynamic movement. The elastic attachment system can also be used to store additional gear across one’s back, such as FlexiCuffs. A small, but useful feature is the admin pouch located at the top of the front plate bag, which allows users to carry small objects like a notebook, pens, or batteries.

The JPC 1.0’s biggest downside is its placard, which is not interchangeable without major modifications. The placard is sewn into the carrier and the integral mag pouches are useful and sleek, but the design makes it somewhat difficult to securely remove a magazine from the pouch. The mags are only secured by a bungee, though aftermarket friction inserts are available. The next largest fault is that it is not ideal for weight bearing, given the carrier’s lightweight design and lack of padding. Other downsides include a lack of a carrying handle, side plate bags, and a quick release system, though the E-DOFF quick release system and side plate bags are available for purchase. Additionally, the JPC plate carriers are not as rugged as heavier plate carriers and may not withstand the same amount of abuse as carriers like the Crye AVS.

Many of the JPC 1.0’s shortcomings have been improved upon with the development of the JPC 2.0. These improvements include the incorporation of modular placards, the E-DOFF quick release system, velcro on the rear plate bag for identification patches, and a modular zipper system for rear MOLLE panels. Though most of the improvements are useful, the rear MOLLE placard is not entirely practical for most civilian and duty applications, as it is rare that users need to constantly alter the carrier’s back panel. The modular back panel was also available on the Crye AVS plate carrier that was issued to me in the 75th Ranger Regiment, though I never witnessed anyone taking full advantage of this feature.

The JPC 1.0 delivers solid performance at a competitive price, making it accessible for most users. Its sleek design, modularity, and useful features enable users to make the most of the lightweight design.
